Located on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, Lazise has a very ancient history: it was inhabited since the Iron Age, prove is the numerous pile-dwellings found in the area.
Its name derives from the Latin "lacus" which means lake village. One kilometre north lies the famous Villa Pergolani, built in the 19th century, which includes a small monastery and Madonna della Pergolana Sanctuary. Lazise was an outpost of the Venetian Republic, and played an important role during the Second World War.
